Iain McLachlan

Iain is a freelance trumpet and flugelhorn player. He has been playing professionally for over 20 years, encompassing a very large variety of styles, including Jazz, Rock, Ska, Punk, Big Band, Salsa and Orchestral.

He studied Performance Jazz at CPIT, moving from there to join the NZ Navy Band in Auckland. While in the Navy Band Iain played for various dignataries including Queen Elizabeth II. During that time he was also a fulltime member of the Rodger Fox Big Band, playing both Lead Trumpet and Solo Jazz chairs.

He first played for Showbiz in the 1996 production of 42nd Street.  During his career, Iain has performed with artists, including: James Morrison, Rodger Fox, Midge Marsden, Stu Buchanan, Francisco Torres and Bobby Shew.

His trumpet playing has taken him around the world. As a showband musician on cruise ships for 15 years he had the opportunity to work with many world-class musicians and performers.

Since returning to New Zealand Iain is enjoying being an active performer with Showbiz, The Symposium Big Band, and various other theatre productions around the South Island.
