Michael Bayly

Michael completed a Fine Arts degree in Photography (Elam) and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Opera from Auckland University. Since graduating he has performed widely in opera, film, television and musical theatre over the last 25 years.

Michael has appeared throughout Australasia with numerous musicals including Blood Brothers, The Secret Garden, Full Marx!, Chess, Rush!, West Side Story, Cinderella, Crazy Dreams, Sweet Charity, Me and My Girl and The Mikado. In Christchurch Michael performed in several Court Theatre productions including Putting it Together, Cabaret, Bad Jelly The Witch and Kiss Me Kate.

Working with Auckland Opera and NBR New Zealand Opera he has appeared in productions of Carmen, La Boheme, The Pearl Fishers, The Flying Dutchman, The Magic Flute, Aida and Die Fledermaus. With Class Act Opera, he toured The Magic Flute and performed Tonio in Dinner with the Pagliacci. For Southern Opera, he has performed in Il Trovatore and Carmen.

In 2009 Michael sang with Showbiz Christchurch in the NZ premiere of Miss Saigon in the role of John, following that in 2010 in the title role of Sweeney Todd. He has performed throughout the South Island in a range of corporate events and concerts with Viva Live, and has enjoyed returning to his choral roots with choirs conducted by Ravil Atlas.

Michael is currently the General Manager of Showbiz Christchurch.
